Energy markets generate more analysis than almost any other sector.

Much of this analysis tells you what’s happening without showing you why, which means you’re taking someone’s word for it.

Foundations of Energy is built around a different approach: data-rich, unbiased narratives that show the work.

The goal is to equip you to think about energy markets with more context, more clarity, and more conviction.

What you get

Free subscribers

Every Sunday I send a free weekly brief covering the most important energy developments of the week. I draw from my own research and LinkedIn commentary, and I include an extended insight or observation I don’t share anywhere else.

Paid subscribers

In addition to the Sunday brief, paid subscribers receive in-depth research posts, typically once per week, going deeper on the market dynamics that matter most. Recent topics have included the ongoing oilfield service margin squeeze, China’s oil demand trajectory, the Baker Hughes-Chart Industries combination, and GE Vernova’s stock price surge.

If you need help justifying a paid subscription as a business expense, reach out and I’ll put a note together for you.

About me

My name is Jeff Krimmel. I have a PhD in mechanical engineering from Caltech. Since 2010, I’ve worked across the energy industry, from oilfield services to industrial reliability for petroleum refining, mining, and chemicals manufacturing. I had senior market strategy and intelligence roles at Baker Hughes and Key Energy Services, and I was the Chief Strategy Officer at Pinnacle.

Today, I run Krimmel Strategy Group (KSG), where I help energy & industrial leaders build thriving and resilient businesses through market research, corporate training, speaking, and strategic counsel.

I launched Foundations of Energy to connect with people serious about understanding how global energy systems actually work. Not the headlines, but the underlying structural realities.

My analysis has been cited in Bloomberg, The Telegraph, Al Jazeera, and Benzinga.

If you’re a learner and want a data-driven guide through one of the world’s most consequential economic sectors, I invite you to join.
